Like his four colleagues manning USFS Engine 57, Mark Loutzenhiser’s firefighting career began when he was still in his teens. Mark, however, had a chance to live his dreams in a 21-year career that included a stint with the Vista Grande Hot Shots. Away from the station, he coached youth and adult sports, built radio-controlled model airplanes and spent more than a few Sundays living and dying with the Pittsburg Steelers. Beloved in his community and by his brother and sister firefighters, Mark Loutzenhiser paid the ultimate price on October 26, 2006 while battling the Esperanza Fire.
