Firefighter Paul Chaffee Courter was a Sacramento City Firefighter who passed away from a job-related spinal injury on June 15, 1936. Firefighter Courter was assigned to Engine Company 1 in downtown Sacramento and was injured as a fire at 117 S Street on May 21, 1936. Courter underwent surgery to repair his damaged spine on June 15, 1936, and unfortunately did not survive the operation.
