With his welcoming personality and friendly disposition, Richard Smith made a lasting impression on those who were fortunate enough to meet him. His colleagues will remember him for his great sense of humor, sharp intellect and excellence on the job. He proudly served the City of Ontario for 19 years, holding the rank of firefighter-paramedic, captain, deputy chief and battalion chief. He also proved to be invaluable to Ontario Firefighters Local 1430, during his time as a member of their Executive Board. He died of job-related colon cancer at the age of 46.
