Mark began his career in the fire service in 1974 with the California Department of Forestry before joining the Orange County Fire Department. After working for 16 years as a firefighter, he was promoted to Fire Apparatus Engineer until his promotion to Fire Captain in 2007, where he served with honor and pride.
During his 40-year career, Mark became one of the founding members of the Orange County Fire Department Urban Search & Rescue Program and also served on the FEMA Incident Support Teams. Outside of work, he enjoyed riding his dirt bike and spending time on the river. He succumbed to the effects of job-related cancer in February 2019.
