When a large fire destroyed more than half a million acres of forestland, Redding smokejumper Steven Grammer was part of the Northern California Hot Shot Crew called to the Angeles National Forest. Strong Santa Ana winds fueled the wildfire, making air transport difficult. His helicopter crashed, killing the crew aboard, including Steven.
